The Power of Gratitude in Business
Lynn Howard
Hey, I’m Lynn.
Amanda Furgiuele
And I’m Amanda. welcome to the pursuit of badasserie, the podcast. We are back with another amazing podcast. And today we’re talking about gratitude.
It is the week of Thanksgiving in the United States, at least. And we are here to talk a little bit about gratitude in entrepreneurship, in our roles as leaders, and what that looks like, what that means.
So a little bit holistic today, but we are talking all about being thankful and grateful.
Lynn Howard
Yes, you know, it’s interesting us being from the States. It’s obviously something that is part of this time of year, the gratitude and hence thanksgiving, right?
However, we believe that it’s something that should be practiced throughout the year, not just one month or one week of the year, because having gratitude, not just in your business, not just with your clients, but also with yourself and with your surroundings, can absolutely help put you in the position to be able to.
Thrive to be more agile have more understanding be more grounded. There’s that’s a different thing so a few reasons why to have gratitude in your business or even in yourself is it absolutely strengthens relationships when people see that you are appreciative of life of what they do of the cause and the fact it Encourages them to want to do more right that they want to feel even more seen more heard Especially when it’s towards somebody else in your business and this could be an employee.
This could be a partner. This could be a Strategic alliance, but when you show gratitude to the individual and absolutely will strengthen that relationship and it doesn’t even have to be direct to them.
I don’t have to you know It could be we have gratitude for something external, but I’m sharing it with Amanda that this is happening.
I’m so grateful this that. And it also from a from a outsider perspective too, is that then she can see that I’m actually connected to my business that I have appreciation for other things.
I’m not just like plowing through stuff. So there are so many different ways that showing gratitude and why having gratitude is important to strengthen those relationships.
Absolutely.
Amanda Furgiuele
That’s for sure. From a relationship standpoint, the gratitude that you show and that you receive in a lot of ways can really trickle down in a lot of unexpected ways.
I think that’s one thing it’s interesting as a leader and having had multiple teams and working with multiple different types of people and their personalities, a little gratitude goes a long way in conveying that your person that you see them as more than just the thing that’s working all the time.
So it goes a long way and there are lots of ways that you can really use this in your in your business.
it’s celebrating your client. And it’s celebrating and thinking your team. It’s small wins. It’s not necessarily only waiting to celebrate and be thankful when they hit a big milestone, like a big marker.
It’s celebrating the little things too. So when you’re showing gratitude doesn’t have to be and showing and celebrating your clients and your team doesn’t have to be waiting till the annual Christmas party to say things.
can be the small little thank you and the small little wins throughout the year. So when you’re thinking about how you can better show gratitude and show and live in that moment of grateful intention, it can be a lot of things that you can be reflecting on your challenges.
It can be identifying where there’s growth and where you’ve seen growth in somebody else and celebrating that for them.
can be thanking your team. can be handwritten notes. It can be reaching out with just a voice text. It can be celebrating small wins, like small milestones that a client might make.
It’s a trickle sound in a lot of different ways You can make it more uniquely to you. It doesn’t have
It’d just be like, I used to think that it had to be a gratitude journal. Like I had to dedicate, I’m going to write a gratitude journal.
And I’m not a big journaler. I was when I was younger. Ironically, I just can’t do it now. But you can tailor that gratitude and what it looks like to you or what works in your life and what works for your business and what you feel like will most acknowledge and your appreciation for someone.
Lynn Howard
Yeah, I think it really, the point of that is it’s like it initiates within you. If you have yourself to actually appreciate and have gratitude for others.
so the way that that comes out can be and all those aspects that you just said, but it does start from within to like teach yourself to be appreciative and have gratitude.
Now some of you may have to bake it till you make it and that’s okay too. Ideally, we would want you to start to embody the gratitude.
for different things. if you don’t have something to be grateful for, then you need to make shifts and changes in yourself and your business and your team around you.
The other thing that is a great reason why to share gratitude is I believe it keeps you grounded. It keeps you grounded in a way of hopefully having some humility because you’re not just having gratitude for the work that you’ve done.
But you put in the gratitude for the external so you’re able to see that you’re not the only the only piece of the wheel, right?
not the only one making things move forward. But also, I really think that, I can share a personal example, when I’m feeling a bit spread thin, or I start to have a bit of, you know, I live in abundance, mostly in mindset, but we flow in between all of them.
But when I start. to feel a little bit of like scarcity, especially in the past when I was navigating some difficult times in my business and in my life.
When I practice consciously practice gratitude, it helped me shift from that scarcity into the abundance because I had appreciation, I had appreciation for life, I had appreciation because appreciation is another kind of form of gratitude if you would.
But it helped shift that into more of an abundance positive, almost even starting to train a resilient mindset to be able to be more grounded in the ups and downs, yes and flows of business.
I think when we can be appreciative and have gratitude for not just where we’re at but where the journey in which we’ve come from, it can definitely shift our perspective.
And this is again, And not just a one man show or one woman show of that gratitude to help shift is also external and showing others because I feel like that little piece pulled you a bit more accountable to that process.
Amanda Furgiuele
Absolutely. the appreciation can go in so many directions. So when you think about appreciating your network and thinking about thinking your mentors, your partners, your peers, anybody who contributed to your success.
We have a lot of soul for neighbors who listen to us. So thinking like you might not have a team to appreciate and to thank, but even if it was you who got you there, there are people who helped you along the way.
Maybe it was the babysitter who allowed you to do things. There’s always somebody that you can think and even like that simple note of gratitude can really strengthen those bonds and make people really see themselves in your journey as well.
And so creating that space of aligned values and vision can trickle down in those ways too. it’s a giving back.
Gratitude by mentoring others or volunteering or supporting causes that really align with your business and what you feel like the values of your business are.
That can also be a way to honor that sense of gratitude and giving back that you can impart on the world every day in your business, not just during the week of Thanksgiving for my U.S.
Lynn Howard
peeps. Yeah. Yes. And I think you said this, I want to reiterate, Gratitude doesn’t have to cost anything, although a man and I definitely believe in having thank you, some kind of thank you SOP in your business for strategic alliances and referral partners, but we can get to that in a second.
last, I know I’m going to why it’s important, but I always believe understanding the root in the why is super important.
But the last one I had notes on was cause and effect. That’s an effect. You can call it manifestation, but I feel like when you practice that gratitude, when you have that mindset, it absolutely attracts opportunity.
All of a sudden, things start to shift, start to open, the energy is flowing in that way, and you know, for those of you, and I’ve done it a few times, I can’t remember who it is.
It’s a famous guru guy, but like they’ll do the 25 days of money manifestation or whatever that is. And I’ve done it in a few different groups, where every day’s a prompt, you do different things, and blah, blah, blah, and there’s a lot about gratitude in there.
And it’s always, even though I know and I practice it, it’s always kind of mind-blowing to me and reassuring of like what starts to open up and shift and how business starts to come in a different way, because I’m starting to have that grateful energy.
it’s almost like a magnet. And I absolutely 100% say I’m behind this. It’s not instant. And it doesn’t always, especially if you’re looking for it.
It doesn’t always like show up in like cause and like cause back like tip or tack, I’ll say. But I definitely believe when we can show gratitude to our business to ourselves, to others around us, it absolutely opens up different flow of energy, which could be more in the abundant or attracts more people and chances in your, in your arena, because it is magnetic.
That energy is magnetic. Like, I mean, if you think about it, like sit and think about and think about somebody who you know, who is an e-war, and the sky is always falling.
there’s, you know, not enough to go around. They’re not happy. They’re not grateful for anything. then think of somebody,
maybe not the extremes, but think of somebody who is grateful, who shows gratitude, who has that energy of like, this is, know, I’m so thankful for my life or for my business or this or that, and like, absolutely walks, walks, talks to talk.
Who would you rather be around? Who would you like? Who would you rather like be attracted to? again, not the extremes.
You can have definitely the EOR from all the one side, or you can have the positive poly who makes you want to puke on the other side.
I’m definitely not saying the extremes, but like in a normal circumstance, most people are going to want to be attracted to that person who has a bit of vibrancy.
And to me, that gratitude can create vibrancy. Now, you can definitely have the, I believe, light and shadow sides of everything that you can definitely have the shadow side of the gratitude and almost blind yourself and different things of that, but that’s a whole other podcast.
Amanda Furgiuele
So true. And I think it’s one thing that I think is underrated when you’re, I guess we’ll deal with gratitude is the mindset shift, because when I had the worst experiences in my personal and professional life, just focusing on the things I was grateful for helped me get out of it, even when it, there was a lot of, a lot of happening.
That simple mindset shift towards the things that you’re grateful for, towards the things that you can celebrate, towards those small things that are pushing for it.
And again, it doesn’t have to always be, again, it’s fake a teammate sometimes. I mean, I can remember one time I was in such a place where literally all I could think of that I was grateful for was coffee and I can written it down.
like, grateful for coffee. And sometimes it’s when you’re in a darker place, it’s harder to find those things, even if they’re abundantly around you and looking back and like,
When you’re looking back when you’re in a better headspace, you look back like, oh, I had so many things going for me.
But when you’re in that dark space, even starting with something super small that you’re grateful for can help shift your perspective in your mindset and get you to a place that’s better and get you to that abundant mindset and get you out of the worst of it and into a better headspace.
So, there’s a lot, a lot around gratitude that can really transform you personally and professionally.
Lynn Howard
Yeah, I, I I’ve often shared to on podcasts and different arenas as well. Like, absolutely, I agree with you, Amanda.
I’ve had those moments where I was just grateful to get out of bed that day. And so I think going back to what you’re saying is, if I can put that one sentence is celebrate the small things, right?
And so having great gratitude for even the small wins can get you through some of the hardest times. since an impersonal life, um, you know, some ways that you can practice it besides what we we had spoke about is, you know, on a personal level, I hate this practice, but absolutely, it’s uncomfortable, but it works is having gratitude in the mirror.
So, like, actually talking to Bob and then, oh, I hate it.
Amanda Furgiuele
I hate it. It’s the works. It works, but man, it’s the works.
Lynn Howard
we know that this is, you know, this is for entrepreneurs and small businesses and leaders, however, it has to start from within.
If you can’t, if you don’t have buy-in and you, we, yes, we say fake it till you make it sometimes, but we want you to fake it till you make it because you don’t, you can’t muster up something else, but you’re going towards the direction of that you’re actually feeling it.
We’re not saying fake it till you make it because you’re a manipulative sociopath and you don’t really give a about anybody.
Like, that’s, that’s your business, boo. Please don’t listen to our podcast anymore. I’m just kidding. Go ahead, share it with your friends.
Amanda Furgiuele
We need the rabies. I was like, they can, they can still just listen.
Lynn Howard
I don’t, I don’t hate appreciate. I’m just kidding.
Amanda Furgiuele
I’m just kidding. It’s out with your sociopathic bad self.
Lynn Howard
Another podcast. But like, like starting with it in the mirror, like Amanda said, having that journal, um, you know, I would, because I hate to journal too.
I love the concept. I love that people do it, which is quite funny because we wrote books.
Amanda Furgiuele
I was, I was an English major. Like, I was supposed to do it all the time for my major.
Lynn Howard
was like, but instead, um, you know, in your, if you have an old school and this is something that I would do when I had an old school calendar, I would write at times.
It was just weekly, but at times it was daily. sometimes I would do it, pre-do it, like my gift calendars to some of my girlfriends.
I would write, I’m thankful for you or I’m thankful for this or whatever. And I would do that even on a sticky note on a daily basis, I’m grateful for bop bop bop bop bop, right?
So writing it out because it’s scientifically proven because you’re writing, you’re seeing, saying it out loud, right? It’s audible.
about gratitude with the people around you and not just showing them gratitude, but maybe asking them how do you show gratitude in your business or in this or that.
So having conversations around it and then actually going through the process and again, having SOPs to, especially for those of you that are leveraging strategic alliances and referral partners, there should be some kind of like, thank you SOP, which is, again, it is a process, but that’s, you know, that’s important.
Amanda Furgiuele
It is, and it doesn’t have to be all the things that want progress of a perfection. I know when I make it
list, or even mental list of all the people that I need to think along them, all the things that I do.
my gosh, the list is daunting. It’s daunting to think of how many people I’m supposed to reach out to.
But baby steps, nobody expects you to be perfect, least of all, Flynn and I, Flynn and me. So please think of it in baby steps, celebrating small steps, but also showing gratitude wherever you can.
It doesn’t have to be this laundry list. Mass text message of everybody that you know, we want to make sure that it’s clear that it’s it’s progress of a perfection.
Lynn Howard
So, yeah, when you were saying that, it reminded me of when I had to write my thank you page for the last but the personal book.
And like, I felt like that could have been a chapter in itself, because you didn’t want to leave anybody out, right?
had this conversation was like, I don’t know, and how to like short concise it. But we hope that you carry on this having gratitude, not just in your business, but also in your life and vice versa throughout the year.
So what can you change to start having more gratitude and not just wait for this time of year? Because this time of year should it be enhanced, it should be a bit more, or people are grateful for you always showing gratitude in the world around you.
So we encourage you to step up your grateful game on this authentic side and to really, really put some things into place that can help your community, your business, and yourself thrive just a bit more during this holiday season by all year round.
Amanda Furgiuele
And of course, before we close out this podcast, we want to make sure that we are saying thank you to all of you for listening, for supporting us, for buying our books, for downloading the Audible book.
For asking us questions and being present on our lives, we are absolutely grateful for every person who has crossed paths with us and everybody who has helped us get here.
There are many people who have helped us get where we are and we are very grateful for everyone.
Lynn Howard
Yes, and because we know our team members listen, we are super grateful to have an incredible global team of changemakers who put up with us sometimes, but also most of the time put up with us.
And that enhance the whole of what we do, we couldn’t do it without you. So we are super, super grateful for you as well, our team members.

Amanda Furgiuele
